As part of the Maas Rhine region’s bid to become European Capital of Culture, the project Fokus 2018 was created in collaboration with Bleiberger Fabrik in Aachen.

At the heart of the project was a simple but powerful question: How do I see myself in the year 2018? Some female students from a school in Jülich, Germany, explored their answers through photography, accompanied and guided by me throughout the process. Their dreams and ideas about the future took shape in instant images on Polaroid film, a medium whose atmosphere and unpredictability added a special depth to the results.

The project was originally planned to run from 2011 to 2018. After the cultural capital bid was not successful, it could not be continued.
